Mavericks start second half of season with a win against Gamblers

Lewis Center, Ohio – On Saturday night, the Mavericks won their first game of 2023 against the Motor City Gamblers.
The first period ended scoreless and with a total of nine penalties, largely from roughing.
By the end of the second period, however, left wing Carson Johnston led the Mavericks to a 2 point lead, scoring at 10:30 on a power play with assists from assist-leader Jadon Beard and captain Colin Crowley and at 16:37 with an assist from newcomer Dimitrii Mykhailiuk.
In the third period, Crowley went on to add a third goal at 12:49, and the Gamblers scored their sole goal at 13:57, 21 seconds into Bryce Kolpien’s interference penalty. Johnston added a final goal of the game, unassisted, with 1:45 left on the clock, for a final score of 4-1.
The Mavs spend the next weekend on the road: they travel to Mount Clemens to play the Jets on Friday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m. and Cincinnati to play the Jr. Cyclones on Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m.
